St Michael’s House, St Albans

Transforming a St Albans Home with Extensions and Modern Design

We had the privilege of transforming a classic three-bedroom semi-detached home situated in the St Alban’s conservation area. Our client entrusted us with the task of reimagining their residence – a property built in 1958 that hadn’t seen an update since its construction. It provided us a pristine white canvas upon which we could creatively delineate a modern living space conducive to the family’s lifestyle.

Our design brief drove us to ensure the provision of maximum natural light, fostering an immersive visual connectivity with the serene outdoors. The family envisaged a generous living space, a luxury master suite, and comprehensive renovation of the existing structure.

In our adherence to the design brief and in collaboration with the conservation planners, we proposed a significant two storey extension. This extension replaced an erstwhile garage, allocating the ground floor to a state-of-the-art kitchen and reserving the first floor for the master suite.

To further enhance the living space and provide an unobstructed view of the lush garden, we designed a sophisticated rear extension boasting roof lights and an elegant glass façade.

The once underused loft space underwent a transformative conversion. We adapted it into a guest bedroom and a well-equipped laundry room.

We seamlessly married function with style in our interior design plan. We emphasised the penetration of natural light and uninterrupted garden views through strategically placed windows. Aesthetic enhancements involved the uniform application of natural wood flooring throughout the property. We also selected a material palette that exudes a serene sense of timeliness, echoing tranquillity and simplicity in each corner of the home.
